Automated Test Equipment evaluates connectivity for a given cable harness quickly and precisely. It looks at the ‘point to point’ accuracy of a harness and performs other checks on the build, such as correct resistances and diode orientation. Other tests such as a Hi-Potential Test, (checking the adequacy of electrical insulation) can also be performed.
Testing cables in this way, minimises the risk of manufacturing errors going uncorrected, before the harness is integrated into a larger, more complex system. Poor crimps can develop into faults, often once the machine is commissioned (this can be due to vibration or environmental conditions). In these circumstances, diagnosing and fixing the issue is often difficult, time consuming and costly – especially with intermittent issues.
In addition to automated testing, PHT use other processes to optimise the performance and reliability of their supplied systems. PHT have designed bespoke functional test rigs for many of its customers, to fully simulate the operating conditions of a control system. This includes checking that all the inputs and outputs of the system are correct.
